About

Structural design is the specialized field of engineering that involves creating safe, stable, and functional structures. It involves the use of standards and codes; in the UK the structural design is typically in accordance with the Eurocode. Structural design of a building typically involves developing a frame design to suit the criteria of the project. Assessing that the frame is structurally sound firstly involves determining the loads that will apply to the structure followed by analysing the frame and designing the members to resist the applied loads. Drawings and reports and created to communicate the information to others involved in the project, all the tasks involved in the structural design should be checked to avoid potentially costly and dangerous mistakes. The course is self-taught and self-paced, meaning you have the flexibility to learn in your time and your own pace, you can also come back to the course in the future. The course is for anyone wanting to learn about the topic, either for beginners or even those who have experience but want to fill in potential knowledge gaps, the course is especially useful for anyone preparing for the ICE or IStructE reviews as each course is aimed at the main attributes / core objectives of being a chartered engineer. The course should take a couple of hours to complete and uses a combination of text, pictures, and quiz questions to cover the basics of structural design in engineering, including: • Eurocode • Framing • Loads • Analysis • Design • Drawings and Reports • Checking
